Temporary Sites (A Proposal)
Thursday 10 May / 6.30pm / Free
Open File is a curatorial project, existing as an ongoing series of events, cumulative publications and an online archive. This May and June Open File will present two Scratch Night events, which will include a screening programme and a publication in three parts, all alongside Olivia Plender’s current exhibition at MK Gallery.
Staged in Olivia Plender’s 1970s style TV studio installation Open Forum, Temporary Sites (A Proposal) will explore the idea of exhibition making as a temporal space as well as a physical space. The event is a device to explore ideas of impermanence and specificity through a selection of performances, screenings and sculptures.
What does it mean to establish a context within an existing context? What happens to the relationships forged between these parts when they become dispersed as printed material and online resources?
Temporary Sites Artists include: Mark Essen, Tim Ivison & Julia Tcharfas, Joanne Masding, Luke McCreadie, Alia Pathan and Rachel Pimm.
Event curated by Jack Brindley and Tim Dixon.

Rotate Exhibition – Eastside Projects & Grand Union
12 March 2012 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
13 March - 27 August 2012
Contemporary Art Society, 11-15 Emerald Street, London WC1N 3QL
and Shortlist Media, 26-34 Emerald Street, London WC1N 3QA
www.contemporaryartsociety.org
The Contemporary Art Society are delighted to be partnering with Shortlist Media on the latest programme of Rotate exhibitions. Rotate is a strand of our programming that provides a platform for the work of independent and artist-run spaces and galleries working outside London by inviting them to exhibit works by the artists they are working with in our central London office spaces.
We host the launch events of new installations three times a year and welcome visitors to see work at the Contemporary Art Society offices from 9.30 — 17.30 Monday to Friday.
Eastside Projects is a Birmingham-based exhibition space with many differences. It is a free, public gallery that is imagined and organised by artists. Nearby Grand Union houses eight purpose built studios and a project space which provides a platform for a diverse programme of events and exhibitions. Both believe in working collaboratively towards change and do so to support the cultural growth of Birmingham. They say “We do not make art for the public, we are the public that makes art and that the artist-run space is not a stop gap. The artist-run space is a public good.”
For Rotate Ruth Claxton and Cheryl Jones will present an exhibition of work by artists associated with Eastside Projects and Grand Union; including An Endless Supply, Helen Brown, Chris Clinton, Mark Essen, Juneau Projects, Kelly Large, Jo Masding, Paul Newman, Elizabeth Rowe, Matt Westbrook and Stuart Whipps.
